The “AYFB”: the Government should pay relevant attention to the expected rise in prices for medicines and medical services

The “Association of Young Financiers and Businessmen” starts pharmaceutical market research. This announcement was made at the press-club of the information agency “Pirweli” by the Vice-president of the organization, Giorgi Kapanadze.

The main directions of the research, provided by the “AYFB”, are as follows: quality and pricing of the medicines and medical services, the availability of the medicines for the population.

,,A disturbing trend has been revealed at the very first stage of the research. In particular, due to the devaluation of the exchange rate of GEL against USD, the number of vulnerable population increases and it becomes more and more difficult for them to obtain necessary medicines and medical services. Therefore, expected increase in prices makes social life even more difficult and the Government should make all possible efforts to alleviate the situation” – stated Giorgi Kapanadze.

According to the appraisal of the Young Financiers, the Government doesn’t have any real instruments to locally prevent the rise in prices in this sector.
,,It is necessary to thoroughly explore the issue and introduce innovative methods, in order to regulate problem, when an ordinary person enters pharmacies and pays for the state medical service some 3 or 4 times more, than in other countries. Such trend endangers not only the positive results, achieved within the universal health care system in the last years, but also the countries’ stability as well. Availability of the health care and especially optimal prices for the medicines, are those issues, which, if unsolved, may even provoke a social explosion,” – stated Kapanadze.

The “Association of Young Financiers and Businessmen” calls on the Government to speed up to move the medicine market and medical services to a such system, that brings European quality and affordable prices.

According to Kapanadze, it is necessary to form optimal system for the cost-effectiveness for every service within the health care system of the country. In his opinion, transparency of the pricing of the medicines should be ensured, so that interested person could obtain full information regarding the process of pricing of the certain medicine.

,,Relevant legal proposal should be drafted in order to increase transparency and accountability of the private and state-owned medical centers as well as the first aid health care institutions. In this record, it is very important to share international experience and timely implement it within Georgian reality” – stated the Vice-president of the “AYFB”, Giorgi Kapanadze.
