“Jvari-Khorga” Interconnection Project” will promote country’s energy independence

“Association of Young Financiers and Businessmen - AYFB ” comments on the construction of the “Jvari-Khorga” power substation in the village of Lia, Tsalenjikha region.

Andria Gvidiani, an analyst with the “AYFB” states, that power station mentioned above, will significantly promote to strengthen electricity transmission network infrastructure. 500/220 KW power substation will be constructed in Jvari within the frameworks of the project. In addition,  the project envisages  construction of 8km overhead transmission line to be connected with 500km transmission line of “Caucasus”. The project is also interesting in terms of finances as well, with  50 million euros investment volume.

„One of the most important aspects of the project is to strengthen infrastructure of the transmission lines inside the country.  Today, 500 KW transmission line “Imereti” works within the transmission network of the country with a significant capacity and any kind of accident during the process  causes  inconvenience in entire country. Jvari power substation will be kind of reinsurance for the existing infrastructure and will ensure to strengthen stability of the energy system” – stated Gvidiani.

The analyst believes, that the substation will also provide sufficient and better use of Enguri river energy potential. “Power transmission lines infrastructure is also very important for potential construction of Hydro Power Plants as well. As it is well known, Enguri river is very important and interesting for energy purposes, construction of 2 big HPPs – Khudon HPP and Nekrasa HPP is planned here. After the construction of these HPPs, 2,7 billion KWH will be added to the total annual power generation. Relevant infrastructure is necessary for safe exploitation of  such huge power and Jvari-Khorga will be the guarantee for such safety.”

The analyst of the Association of Young Financiers and businessmen has also discussed the role of Jvari-Khorga substation in record of energy exchange with neighboring countries. “It should be noted, that the main operation area of the substation are  Abkhazia, Guria and Adjara regions. Adjara transmission line holds strategic importance, since Turkey is the biggest export market for Georgia and strengthened infrastructure in Adjara could potentially become a pretext for the construction of the new transmission line connecting with Turkey.

Jvari-Khorga project is also very important for the development of the transmission line independence and autonomy. Since soviet period, Georgian transmission lines infrastructure has been
